Executive Summary: MILDMAY Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS) completed implementing its 2017-2022 Strategic Plan on June, 30 2022. The Governing Council flagged off the process to develop the MIHS Strategic Plan for 2023-2028. The process involved global, national and organizational analyses using diverse tools. Three other Strategic Plans were developed alongside the MIHS Strategic Plan namely (i) the Mildmay Uganda 2023-2028 Strategic Plan; (ii) the Mildmay Research Centre Uganda Strategic Plan 2023-2028; and (iii) the Mildmay Hospital Uganda Strategic Plan 2023-2028. The MIHS Strategic Plan period 01 July 2023 to 30 June 2028 matches with the dates for the other three strategic plans. The four plans are synchronized to synergize the investments and efforts across the Mildmay Uganda Group during the 2023-2028 period. The planning process for each Entity was overseen by the respective governance structure and directed by the Chief Executive of the Entity. The 2023-2028 Planning Teams were drawn from senior staff in the Entities and led by the Sustainability and Partnerships Directorate at MUg Headquarters.

Executive Summary: MILDMAY Hospital Uganda (MHUg) has developed this Plan comprising its first Strategic Plan as it embarks on the growth journey that will witness its incorporation as a legal entity under the Mildmay Uganda (MUg) Group. The Board of Directors led the process of developing this MHUg Strategic Plan for 2023-2028. The planning process involved global, national and organizational context analysis using diverse tools. It also involved strategic planning for the Mildmay Uganda (MUg) NGO and the Mildmay Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS). In 2022, MUg had done strategic planning for Mildmay Research Centre Uganda (MRCU). The Strategic Plans for the 4 MUg Entities [i.e., the NGO, MIHS, MRCU and MHUg] run for 5 years from July 01, 2023, to June 30, 2028. The four plans are synchronized to synergize the investments and efforts across MUg Group during 2023-2028. The process included major review and planning exercises conducted during the 2018-2023 period. The planning steps were overseen by the Board and directed by the Executive Director. The 2023-2028 Corporate Planning Team drawn from the NGO, MIHS, MRCU and the Hospital developed the Plans. Key planning steps included (i) strategy review and design sessions; (ii) program design sessions; (iii) leaders and managers planning meetings and workshops; (iv) directors planning meeting and workshops; (v) Board validation meetings; (vi) analyses of policy and strategy frameworks; (vii) stakeholder consultations; and (viii) literature reviews.

Prior to that, the Board of Directors flagged off the process to develop the MUg Strategic Plan for 2023-2028. The SP 2023-2028 development process involved global, national and organizational context analysis using diverse tools. It also involved strategic planning for Mildmay Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS) and the then budding Mildmay Hospital Uganda (MHUg). Earlier, during the year 2022, MUg had done strategic planning for the Mildmay Research Centre Uganda (MRCU). The Strategic Plans for the 4 MUg Entities [i.e., the NGO, MIHS, MRCU and MHUg] run for 5 years from July 01, 2023, to June 30, 2028. Foreword: The essence of the Mildmay Research Centre Uganda (MRCU) to expand the knowledge horizon and inform health policy and practice by discovering new information to help construct theories that contribute to the national and African thrust to transition from backwardness to modernity. MRCU exists to conduct high-quality studies that contextualize findings within the larger body of research and generate knowledge applicable outside the research setting to solve health and development challenges that society grapples with.
