Job Summary: The job holder will is responsible for identifying, developing, and writing competitive grant proposals that grow Mildmay Institute of Health Sciences’ (MIHS) non-tuition income, with a primary focus on research grants and a secondary focus on programme/institutional grants. As a growing Institution, MIHS is building its research income from an emerging base; the role is therefore central to establishing a credible research grants pipeline, putting in place the systems, policies, and institutional track record that competitive funders expect of a young university, and growing the number of MIHS academic staff able to win and manage externally funded research. S/he supports capacity building of MIHS staff and students in proposal development and research administration and coordinates the implementation of funded grants and projects to ensure quality delivery, compliance, and strong donor relationships. The role works closely with faculty, School/Departmental leadership and the Mildmay Research Centre Uganda to strengthen MIHS’ competitiveness in the research and higher education funding landscape.

Qualification & experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a health science, life science, social science, public health, research administration, or related field.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field, or postgraduate training in research methods, grant/proposal writing, or research management, is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in grant/proposal writing, with demonstrated success securing research grants from donors.
- Working knowledge of the research and higher education funding landscape, including familiarity with academic grant cycles, ethics/regulatory requirements, and research administration.
- Experience supporting programme/institutional grants and coordinating implementation of donor-funded projects in a university, research institute, or non-profit setting.
- Experience designing and delivering capacity-building activities for researchers or academic staff is desirable.
- Experience of building or growing a research or grants function in a young, expanding, or resource-constrained institution is highly desirable
