Background:

Mildmay Uganda’s Library and Resource Centre serves more than 500 users including Mildmay staff, students undertaking training and placements at the centre, and other registered library users.

Library’s Vision

To refocus priorities to place greater emphasis on e-services; remain critical in delivery of library services, combining access to print collections while offering the much needed learning environment and to facilitate longer opening hours and enhance the support that library users need.

Library’s Mission

To support the mission and strategic goals of Mildmay Uganda. The library achieved this by:
  1. Facilitating access to a range of quality information sources to support the needs of Mildmay students and staff.
  2. Offering a pleasant library environment that is conducive for study.
  3. Offering innovative services which meet the particular needs of Mildmay students and staff and ensuring that service quality is monitored and maintained by a team of user friendly, competent and user focused staff
  4. Enabling students to acquire the skills needed to find, evaluate, use, and present information in their studies.
  5. Promoting awareness of the Library’s resources and services and how they can support learning, teaching, research, and administration in the College.


  6. Library Objectives:

    1. To make the Library as easy to use independently as possible and manage the collections in ways that assist users in finding the books that they need;
    2. To maintain a silent cool study environment;
    3. To make access and use of e-Library services as easy as possible;
    4. To place help and support at the centre of the Library services;
    5. To raise awareness of Library services available to students and all staff by engaging in more effective marketing of library services.


    Opening Hours:

    The library operates within the following timings:
    Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:45pm
    Saturday – Sunday (Closed)
    Public holidays (closed)
    Note:
    The Library is closed on Weekends and Public holidays. However, special weekends are often arranged during study peak days especially for weekend students at the request of the concerned academic Managers.

    AIP publishes 12 journals, 2 magazines, and a conference proceedings series. AIP's Scitation platform hosts over 2 million articles from more than 200 scholarly publications for 28 earned society publishers.

    British Institute of Radiology
    Access to British Journal of Radiology (BJR) and Dentomaxillofacial Radiology (DMFR) Global Health is a bibliographical abstract and indexing database specialising in public health, human nutrition, parasitic, communicable and tropical diseases and medicinal plants. It provides access to abstracts of the world's research literature from 1973 to present with coverage of English and foreign language journals, books, research reports, patents and standards, dissertations, conference proceedings, annual reports, developing country information and other difficult to obtain literature.

    The Cochrane Library is a collection of online searchable databases containing high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. Cochrane Reviews represent the highest level of evidence on which to base clinical treatment decisions. In addition to Cochrane Reviews, The Cochrane Library provides other sources of reliable information, from other systematic reviews abstracts, technology assessments, economic evaluations and individual clinical trials all the current evidence in one single environment

    Emerald CUUL full-text access features Emerald HR, Learning & Organization Studies (25 journals) and Emerald Accounting, Finance & Economics (39 journals) all of which are peer-reviewed and fully searchable full text journals.

    Project MUSE provides online access to 500 full-text journals from 200 non-profit publishers in the humanities and social sciences.

    Over 550 journals in the business, humanities, social sciences and science, techology and medicine (STM).

    Springer Open
    Springer is one of the leading international scientific publishing companies. Springer's eJournals cover a wide range of subjects including biomedicine and the life sciences, clinical medicine, physics, engineering, mathematics, computer sciences, human sciences, social sciences and economics. However, CUUL is currently not subscribing to the springer eJournals but users get access to the springer Open Access resources.

    Wiley Online Library
    Wiley Online Library is a leading international resource for scholarly content providing access to millions of articles across a wide range of journals. This package provides access to over 500 journals in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

    Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB)
    The Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) is a discovery service for peer reviewed books published under an open access license. DOAB provides a searchable index to the information about these books, with links to the full texts of the publications at the publisher's website or repository.

    Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
    The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) lists free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals, covering all subjects and languages.
